Random Observations: Overheated Rooms
A striking and quite unique feature of the Czech Republic are overheated rooms. Be it offices, meeting rooms, or train compartments: The heating is at its maximum, and if it really gets too hot, people prefer to wear t-shirts rather than turning down the radiator.
I find this phenomenon really inexplicable because Czechs are largely outdoor romantics – fond of hiking, fishing, arranging holiday camps for their kids and a cottage on the countryside for their weekends.
In some places – think of Prague tram cars filled with the unambiguous ‘scent’ of human faeces – the longing for both heat and fresh air are clearly in conflict.
