Havel’s Heart in Brussels

Havel’s neon heart from the Prague castle can now be seen in Brussels at the EU Parliament.

“Truth and love must win over lies and hatred!” – was the motto of Václav Havel, the dissident turned Czechoslovak and then Czech President. To commemorate his contribution to freedom on the first anniversary of his death, a neon heart was lit on 17 December on the facade of European Parliament in Brussels. EP Vice-president Oldřich Vlasák, host of the event, described Havel as “symbol of the struggle for freedom and democracy”.
