It must be something like the Czech version of Wild West saloons: ubiquitous amusement arcades, called “Herna”, where people also go to have a late beer or maybe even buy what you cannot buy in broad daylight. You can find Hernas virtually everywhere. I count 5 of them in a radius of one block around my flat. My neighborhood is a friendly and quite central living quarter.
I guess that most people here actually don’t like them – at least not in that bulk. Decisions, however, are made in town halls and licenses issued by the Ministry of Finance. And that is where the tax goes.
The charity Brnění o.s. has developed a project that seeks to inform about the high percentage of illegal Hernas. Check out their Prague " href="http://www.mapyhazardu.cz/d/praha/" target="_blank">map of Hernas in Prague.
